Charleston Moves Up Two Spots In Travel + Leisure magazine’s World’s Best Poll

Charleston is ranked as the fourth best city in America, according to Travel + Leisure magazine’s World’s Best Awards 2008 readers’ survey. Moving up two spots on the list from its No. 6 ranking in last year’s poll, Charleston only falls behind New York, San Francisco and Chicago.

Three Charleston properties were also honored in this year’s poll as Top 100 Hotels in the Continental U.S. and Canada. Included in the rankings were the Charleston Place (No. 31), Planters Inn (No. 57) and the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort (No. 76).

“To receive this distinction for eight consecutive years acknowledges the continuing charm of our area,” stated Roger Warren, Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors for the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “It is a privilege to be recognized again, especially by the sophisticated readers of Travel + Leisure, and we will continue to strive to be a world-class destination that so many people love to visit.”

Travel + Leisure magazine has a circulation of approximately one million and is a highly regarded source of travel and dining information designed for the sophisticated, well-traveled person who has a strong interest in leisure activities. The 2008 World’s Best Awards readers’ survey results (listed by overall and regional rankings) and survey methodology are featured in the August issue of Travel + Leisure magazine, and online at www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest.
